Every day we come across situations where we lose our hope, enthusiasm and the zeal to work and even the most delightful things and sceneries fail to lift our mood, we enter into a state of suspended activities- yes commonly termed as depression. Depression is a widespread issue these days affecting all the age groups-be it school students or senior citizens. But do you know that we can easily fight off depression- as easy as munching some mood-lifting items. Below is the list of certain food items that will help you to fight off depression.

1. The mood lifting Walnuts: Walnuts are a rich source of omega 3 fatty acids, which boots our brain activities and lifts our spirit.   Omega-3 fatty acids induce the release of certain neurotransmitters that reduce the symptoms caused due to depression and gives us a zest of happiness.

2. The refreshing berries: Berries like Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries are some of the most abundant sources of antioxidants. Antioxidants are also termed as the DNA repairmen because of their healing nature. The antioxidants repair the damaged cells and tissues and reduce depression. Berries also help us to fight many other illnesses including cancer.

3. Tangy Tomatoes: Tomatoes are like the grim reaper for the symptoms of depression. Fully loaded with folic acid and lipoic acid, the tomato is an excellent home remedy to fight depression. The folic acid helps to prevent the production of an excess of homocysteine- which is responsible for restricting the production and release of important neurotransmitters like dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine in our bloodstream. The lipoic acid, on the other hand, helps in the conversion of glucose into energy, thereby lifting our mood.

4. Our all-time favorite Dark chocolate: Dark chocolate is one of the best cure to fight off depression. Cocoa, the main component of dark chocolate, is a rich source of flavanols, which are a rich source of antioxidants and have anti-inflammatory properties, that cure brain diseases like- concussion, stroke, ADHD, Parkinson Disease, autism, etc. Dark chocolate stimulates the release of Dopamine- the feel-good hormone which motivates us and helps us to ward off depression.

Few more food items that curb depression are apples, onions, beans, avocado, mushrooms, protein-rich food items like tuna, walnuts, etc.
