Nothing is eternal

Agriculture, in a nutshell, can be defined as the production of food with the application of the systematic method for the controlled development of plants as well as living organisms. Individuals, who are part of this industry need to prepare the land, harvest the crops, fertilize them and make management of farming to grow healthy crops for consumption of humankind and other living beings.

Agricultural engineering is one specific branch of engineering which educates about farm production and its processing methods. Agricultural engineering subject is formed by the combination of other fields of engineering like mechanical, electrical, civil, as well as chemical engineering along with agrarian principles. The target of this subject is to reduce labor fatigue, increase efficiency, and maintain an environment-friendly atmosphere and planning for designing equipment for efficient agriculture. The subject of Agricultural engineering is vast and consists of different branches. There are wide ranges of courses offered for the students who want to pursue a career in the field of Agriculture Engineering.

1.    Bio-Engineering: Bio-Engineering is one of the advanced industries and a favored topic for those people having interest in food engineering as well as genetically modified organisms. Biotechnology made huge advancement in the last couple of years and did enormous work for the manufacturing of pharmaceuticals, for example, human insulin for patients with diabetics and human growth hormone, besides many others. Attention is given to make minimum use of pesticides and efficient farming of crops.

2.    Waste Management: Environmental, as well as sustainability engineers jointly work to design highly environmental friendly solution for minimization of the waste which is created at the time of farming.  New policies are developed and designed for making systematic use of agricultural goods as well as environments. Some of the primary jobs in this field include designing farming equipment, generation of biogas out of waste and invention of technologies to support the manufacturing of farming products and saving natural resources.

3.   Agricultural Technology: Agricultural technology is one of the most loved subject or branch of agricultural engineering. GPS helped in making several technological advancements in the field of agriculture. Precision agriculture emerged out as one of the most developed industries in the last few decades. Precision agriculture targets to make minimum utilization of pesticides or chemical application in the agricultural land.

4.    Agricultural Resource Management: Involvement of mathematics and science is there in agriculture to decide how the agrarian lands will be used. Crop rotation is not considered to be simple as it is used to be in earlier times. Starting from land allocation to usage of water till the minimum use of chemicals, all needs to be done in a calculative manner to get the best results from the lands.

Be scared and do it anyway

Agricultural engineering can be defined as an engineering discipline which deals with the subject of agricultural production and agricultural processing. Agricultural engineering makes a perfect combination of other disciplines which includes mechanical, electrical, civil, and principles of chemical engineering with additional knowledge of principles of agricultural based on the technological principles.

On the other hand, we can say that agriculture is a subject which deals with science and practice of farming, which also includes soil cultivation for the healthy growth of crops as well as the rearing of animals in order to provide wool, food,  and different other products useful for human survival. It is basically a subject which is a combination of both sciences as well as the art of making cultivation of plants and livestock.

Coming back to agricultural engineering, this subject is having several branches and subdivisions.

1. Agricultural Technology: Agricultural technology, deals with the application of specific techniques which is needed for the control and growth as well as harvesting of vegetable products and animals.

2. Bio-Engineering: Bio-Engineering is one of the advanced industries and a hot topic of discussion for many people and agriculture students having an interest in food engineering as well as genetically modified organisms.

4. Agricultural Resource Management: This subject involves mathematics as well as science. Both these subjects are used by agricultural experts for deciding how one can use the agrarian lands in an effective and environment-friendly manner.

4.  Waste Management: This branch of agriculture engineering deals with an environmentally friendly solution.  Here the sustainability engineers work towards designing effective solutions which are environmental friendly for the minimization of volume of wastes which are created during farming activities.

Above are the main branches of agricultural engineering from which students wishing to make a career in the agricultural industry can choose their branch.
