Whether you are looking at it as a hobby or as a profession, knowing how to work a camera is a worthwhile effort. Do remember that as a hobby it could be pretty expensive but the results are pretty amazing too. There are so many ways to learn photography, but we have brought together a few pointers here to get you started.
What do you love most?
While some would love to take photos of nature, some love taking the snaps of happy kids, while some want to be a war photographer, some would want to cover the sports. The first step before getting into photography is to decide on what inspires you the most. Is it the tough sports, the dangerous war zones, the serene nature or something else?
For those who love to travel landscape photography is probably the best route to take and for those who love taking pictures of people, photo journals are a good avenue to look at. Decide on what you love the most before you start learning the art of photography.
Right camera and lenses
Of course, you need the camera to take the photos but can any camera do the work? Maybe or maybe not! You need first to understand whether you want to go the analog way or the digital way. You have to figure out the kind of camera that you want to use. Will it be a DSLR or a mirrorless model? There are quite a few models in cameras available in the market. Review their features carefully and decide on the right camera based on your interest.
There is no definitive conclusion on what kind of lens a beginner should use, whether it should be a prime one or a zoom one. Whatever be the model you buy, ensure that you have lens cloth to keep it clean and a UV filter as well.
Keep taking photos
Experience and expertise come with practice. So we would say you take your camera wherever you go. You never know when you will find an inspiring photo and when you would get a good shot. You wouldn’t want to regret not taking the camera at that time. Also, try incorporating the techniques you have learned in your photos so that you get to practice.
It is not enough that you know how to take the photos or how to operate the camera. You should also learn about the lighting and its effect on photos, the different modes, the different compositions, how to bring out the contrast and depth and more. There are many books on Photography, that are easily available in the market. As you learn you will be able to develop your skills like a pro.
