If you look into the definition of Geology, then it describes clearly that Geology deals with all the physical features and nature of the earth starting from its existence, evolution, environmental nature and every small and big resource with which the earth is comprised of. As the subject matter of Geology deals a lot with the existence of the earth; thus it is very clear that the Geologists study a lot with the history of the earth.

It has been found that the earth had its existence about 4.5 billion years ago. Now, it is very obvious that the environment and physical conditions of the earth like its land, water, climate, resources are not similar as it was during the creation of the earth. As generation passed by, a lot of changes has undergone like various natural hazards (earthquakes, volcanoes, floods, landslides, etc. Whenever such natural hazards occur, you should understand that the physical and natural condition of the earth is not in its actual form and getting degraded. Geologists study on these principles and go on finding exactly what kind of changes are degrading the natural conditions of the earth from before and find out certain techniques and way-outs so that the physical aspects of the earth can be saved. They look into the characteristic features of the earth by exploring the history and finds out what changes have exactly undergone and how to get a solution for a better way out.

The creation and evolution of the earth have a lot of phases which are divided into ages. Various ages have shown changes in various resources.

The Pre-Geologic period - The oldest time of the creation of the earth about 4.5 billion years ago. This period deals with the formation of rocks named as amphibolites.

Atmosphere and oceans - It was about 2.5 billion years from now when the atmosphere of the earth with various gases and the settlement of the oceans took place due to planetary differentiation.

Geologists study the evolution and history of the earth and make interpretations from the observations and finally draw hypothesis or conclusion on how to deal with the natural resources of the earth. Geological researches would not be possible without studying the history of the earth as well. The geologists process various strategies like the radiometric dating which deals with the study and applications of the radioactive elements while they go on studying the history of the earth.

Some of the strategies involve radiometric dating; this can be used by a geologist to know the usage of radioactive elements.
