How does sleep deprivation affect productivity?

The sleeping disorder can affect badly on the productivity as well as the health of the individual suffering from it. 

If you suffer from a sleep disorder and if it continues for a long time,  it will affect your work productivity and health undoubtedly. It is necessary to sleep better if you want to be more productive. Healthy adults need to have a minimum of 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep every night.  However, research by Hult revealed the fact that only 6 hours and 28 minutes of sleep taken by professionals on an average day. Lack of quality sleep affects human productivity badly.

Effects of sleep deprivation on productivity: 

• Less productivity: It has been noticed that if any person works more than 40 hours a week, their productivity gets reduced negatively. A person suffers from insufficient sleep, will lack energy and will not be able to work more. Hence it is necessary to maintain the working hours of every person and have an adequate sleep to remain productive. 

• Poor performance: Lack of sleep creates a profound impact on human feelings and mood levels. Some worst psychological sleeplessness effect includes paranoia, mania, hallucinations, and memory loss.  All these things cause a significant impact on the work productivity leading to unfinished project or poor performance in annual appraisal.

• Low immunity: If you fail to sleep, the immune system will fail to rebuild. This will lead to an increase in the level of the stress hormone cortisol, which is an immunosuppressant and that affects the overall immune system. If your immunity is low, then the chances are high that you will remain ill and sick consistently which will affect the productivity for sure.  

• Central nervous system: Central nervous system is the prime part of the body of a human being, and due to sleep deficiency, it fails to work correctly. Quality Sleep is a must to keep it perfectly functional. But due to chronic insomnia, it can cause a barrier in your body at the time of sending information. Sleep deprivation makes the brain feel exhausted, and it cannot perform the duties, it should keep your active and alert for delivering the expected productivity.

Above are some of the significant effects which you can see in a person suffering from sleep deprivation or showing low productivity in the workplace.
