How does an ozone generator work?

No one likes terrible unhygienic environments, smells, and odors and it is in a bid to get rid of these that several devices have been invented. One of the most well-known of these is the ozone generator. In very simple terms, an ozone generator is a device or a machine that converts regular atmospheric air into a special form of oxygen called ozone (a molecule of regular oxygen has two atoms while a molecule of ozone has three instead). This ability allows the machine to get rid of pollutants or contaminants in the air – especially those responsible for those horrible smells. Ozone generators are used for domestic and industrial purposes, and this explains why it is seen in homes and factories. 

 Ozone (also known as activated oxygen) is different from the oxygen that sustains us all. Unlike regular oxygen, ozone is one of the most effective agents of sterilizing agents on earth and can destroy microorganisms that are capable of causing diseases. So basically, what ozone generators do is to produce ozone artificially. At this stage, after explaining what ozone is, the next logical step is to clarify how ozone generators work. 

  An ozone generator depends primarily on electricity and an ample supply of oxygen. Once the device is connected to a source of electrical energy, it sucks up the oxygen present in the atmosphere. The oxygen that is taken up into the ozone generator is then made to pass through several discharges of electricity. These steady applications of electrical energy reconfigure the molecular structure of the oxygen and convert it straight to ozone which is then used – primarily to get rid of smells or disinfect the environment thus improving the quality of the surrounding air in no time.

  Interestingly, the ozone that is generated is swiftly broken down after use and reverts to oxygen. Thus, the ozone generator does not leave any dangerous remnants of gas which can cause further harm to the environment of living organisms like pets or even human beings. 

  The amount of ozone that can be produced in unit time depends on the type of generator that is being used. Industrial ozone generators produce far more output than those employed for the domestic purpose at home or in the health centers. Some ozone generators can even be modified to provide extra energy that can then be used to power other tasks.
