1. When breath becomes air
This book is a memoir of the neurosurgeon Paul Kalanithi, a professor at Stanford University. He was diagnosed with lung cancer, and in this book, he speaks about facing death gracefully and how to live life to your fullest. 2. Hiroshima
A book by John Hersey that speaks about the essence of time we have and why we should be thankful for it, using the true story of what happened in Hiroshima on 6th August 1945. 3. Silent Spring
Well acknowledged as the book that catapulted the environmental movement, this is a book by Rachel Carson. You could read the passion she had for the future of our universe echoing in the words of this book. This book was so powerful that it brought in the ban of DDT and many other changes regarding the environmental conditions and the human perspective of it.
4. I know why the caged bird sings
Written by Maya Angelou, the book captures the yearning of the children in her autobiography, retelling the tale of her youth, while she was living in Arkansas with her grandmother. It is a book series that captures her life with poignancy and candor which makes it an exciting read.
5. Sapiens: A brief history of mankind
The title says it all. Yuval Noah Harari takes us through a journey from the beginning of mankind, covering the significant revolutions which have shaped us into what we are today. The book provides you a lot of information on how we have transformed over the years and how the evolution – cognitive, agricultural and scientific, has empowered us.
