Tips On Improving Your Health Before You Travel 12 March, 2021   

When you are running a busy schedule, there are several ways that you can forget to look after yourself. Therefore, finding smaller tips and tricks to help you improve your health as much as possible before you travel can benefit you in the long term. In this article, we will be providing you with some of our tips and tricks on how to improve your health. 

Wash your Hands As Much As Possible 

When looking to travel, it is important to make sure that you are as healthy as possible. Therefore, making sure that you wash your hands as much as possible both before and during your time of travelling will prevent you from catching any illness. This is even more important now as Covid-19 continues ton sweep across the world as this will ensure that you can travel freely without getting ill. In addition to washing your hands, bringing some hand sanitiser to use in between uses will benefit you greatly, particularly if you are travelling with very young children or those that love to explore. 

Keep As Active As Possible 

In addition to washing your hands frequently, it is important to make sure that you are remaining as active as possible. With several ways to exercise before travelling and several activities that you can do whilst you are travelling, this is the perfect way for you to maintain your health overall and make sure that you are still able to enjoy your holiday. In addition to helping maintain a healthy weight, continued exercise can help to deal with leg injuries and weak bones and muscles. 

Not only are there several home workouts that you can do, but there are also several walks that you can do to build up your muscles and help to keep you healthy. There are several of these workouts that you can do as a whole family should you wish to get your holiday. In addition to this, keeping active can also prevent other issues such as heart issues, migraines and even general tiredness allowing you to enjoy your trip much more, regardless of the distance that you are travelling.  

Ensure You Have A Travel Policy Before You Travel 

In addition to making sure that you are as healthy as possible before you go, it is important to make sure that you are protected when you are travelling. With a health insurance policy for those travelling to America and a GHIC card for those travelling from the UK to Europe, there are several ways that you can gain access to healthcare when you are travelling should you need to. This is important as this will reduce the costs of your health care should you fall ill and protect not only you but your family members.   

Protect Yourself From The Sun 

You can also remain healthy by simply protecting yourself from the sun with the use of sun cream, a hat. By using these methods as well as planning your day to stay out of the sun in the peak times, will prevent dehydration and several other common illnesses from taking place both before or during your time of travelling. This is a small but significant change that you can make to your trip that can better your experience and prevent you from becoming ill in the long term regardless of where you are travelling to. 

Drink Bottled Water 

If you are someone who is very prone to feeling ill with new foods and drinks then bringing bottled water or filtered water on your trip is one of the best ways for you to not only stay hydrated but prevent stomach upset. However, carrying around a huge number of bottles can be a huge amount of wasted space in your suitcase. Therefore, bringing a reusable bottle with an added filter or investing in some bottled water when you arrive there is the perfect way to prevent any form of illness when you are travelling.  

Make Those You Are Travelling With Aware Of Your Allergies 

If you are travelling with many people, it is important to make sure that you have important information such as allergies and other medical information. This should be on hand for not only yourself but the people that you are travelling with to ensure that you are travelling safely. By allowing them access to this information they can then provide this to doctors and other medical staff with all the information that is required for them to help you should you fall ill. 

If you have severe allergies such as a Peanut allergy that require you to carry around medication, it is also important to make sure that you have enough to last the duration of your trip. These can be stored in a carry-on bag or within a first aid kit. When you have packed them, you should then let your friends know where you have placed them so that they can find the medication should you have an allergic reaction. 

Get A Check-up From Your Doctor 

Before you travel, it is always important to make sure that you have all the prescriptions that you need to make it through the course of the trip. At the same time, it is important to get a check-up from your doctor, this will benefit you before you travel as it will put your mind at ease and provide you with the ability to get any medical notes that you need there and then. 

By booking in a check-up with the doctor, you can check for any issues that may prevent you from travelling. This information can also be used as a reference when applying for a health insurance policy as it can provide you with the most up to date medical information. 

Protect Yourself From Mosquitos 

Though a little mosquito bite may not seem like much when you are enjoying the summer sun in the UK, one bite whilst away on holiday could run the risk of you becoming ill. Though this is very unlikely, taking the time to protect yourself from these little bugs using an anti-bug spray or a net around the bed will help to limit the chances of you becoming ill when you are travelling. 

This is something that many people forget when they are travelling the world and can lead to several terrible illnesses if left unattended. In addition, there are also several anti-bug plugins that you can put in your suitcase to help limit the number of bugs from getting into the hotel room or Air B&B that you are staying in. 

Get Any Vaccines That You Need 

The final way that you can go about improving your health before you travel is by getting any vaccines that you need. With several countries requiring you to have proof of having the vaccine before you can enter, it is important to be aware of these before you leave. If you find that you do require a vaccine before you are set to travel, this should be booked into an NHS clinic long before you are set to travel. Should you require proof that you have had the vaccine, you can also gain a letter or formal piece of documentation from then that should be kept safe alongside your passport. This can then be presented when you are travelling through airport security and will ensure that you are entering the country safely. Though this will take time to organise, everyone you are travelling with must be vaccinated to prevent any health issues.
