From time immemorial, when the first settlements appeared, each tribe had a leader. As time went on, the world changed, countries and cities appeared, new rulers arose with their vision of power and system of government. Leaders, kings, princes, khans, emperors, presidents ... In order to live in society, we must listen to the rules established by someone. Who is pulling strings nowadays? Are these only the heads of state who represent authority for people, or is there someone/something else?
What has changed significantly over the past millennia? The world we live in. In ancient times, it was simple and stable. We lived in small groups, about 50 people each. There were no notable technical or social advances at that time. Only in the last 10 thousand years, the world has changed significantly: agriculture and animal husbandry have developed, cities have been built, and world trade has appeared. And since the beginning of industrialization, there is little in our world that resembles those times for which our brain was optimized.
In the book The Art of Thinking Clearly: Better Thinking, Better Decisions, Rolf Dobelli gives a good example: in a world where hunters lived, manual work was valued more than the ability to think. A quick reaction ensured survival, while long reflections, on the contrary, made it difficult. Conversely, in the modern world, intuitive behavior prevalent among our ancestors becomes a losing one. Sharp intelligence and independent behavior are now rewarded. Namely, our brains are focused on survival and reproduction. In other words, we need to think first in order to convince others. Whoever knows how to do this provides himself with power, influence, and access to the maximum amount of resources.
Who rules the world?
Since the world became digitized and technologies evaded every sphere of our life, we have observed multiple changes in every domain of our lives. Transformation touched both the way we work, the way we perceive info, as well as the manner we think and communicate.
Walter Lippman wrote that we see the world only after we are told about it and that we tend to imagine many things before trying them. Stereotypes disseminated by the press strongly influence our perception.
To put it another way, media tend to highlight the info the way they want or are made to.
However, we learned to filter the information. Now owing to the variety of content on the Internet, we can easily choose what to watch, what to listen to, and what to read. So are we under someone’s impact now? Who changes the world nowadays?
Technological revolution drastically remodeled our lives. With all technologies that surround us today, we seem to become addicted to the leaders ruling the Internet industry. Not only are we dependent on the devices. At the same time, we have come to the point that the world follows trends launched by someone. For this reason, people slowed down with the invention of something unique. Therefore, most of us are more likely to follow trends than to invent something new. The question arises: do we have something new to develop, or is everything already created? Let’s have a look at modern influencers and their inventions.
One of the well-known billionaires, who passed the IQ test with flying colors, surprisingly dropped out of Harward university to find Microsoft’s largest software corporation. Bill started elaborating on computer programs when he was 13. Together with his friend Paul Allen, they launched multiple products, such as MS-BASIC, MS-PASCAL, MS-COBOL, and others. Revolutionizing the technological industry, Bill Gates has inspired many people to pursue his steps.
Maybe the most influential person nowadays. It won’t be a mistake to say that this person has approached the future to us as no one did before. Just imagine: the Hyperloop supersonic capsule project, SpaceX rockets developed for Mars investigation, the invention of powerful electric Tesla cars, and SolarCity providing eco-energy. All of these were the bright ideas of one man. Moreover, Elon has recently set sights on cryptocurrency. Due to his Bitcoin crypto purchase for $1,5 billion, he has drastically changed the market movements. Consequently, more people thought that a famous person knows what he does, so multiple companies started buying digital assets as well.
