Are you planning to publish your first Android app on the Google Play Store, but don’t know how to do it then here is a step-by-step guide for you about how you can successfully publish your first Android app on Google Play Store?
As well all know, Google Play Store is unarguably the biggest platform supporting distribution, promotion, and selling of Android app, enabling app developers and owners to reach the enormous consumer market of over 1 billion people.
People doing it for the first time may find the publishing process a bit intimidating; because like any other app store, Google Play Store also has a set of defined rules, standard, policies, and procedures that have to be understood and followed precisely to work with Google Inc. while avoiding any future discrepancy. So without any further ado, let’s jump directly into the steps that you need to follow.
Step 1: Create Your Google Developer’s Account
This is the first and the foremost step that you have to begin with; and that is creating your Google Developer’s Account to which you can sign up by using any of your existing Google Account. The signup process to Google Developer The account is fairly easy and requires you to submit $25 as a registration fee one time only. As soon as your sign-up you will be required to review and accept the Developer Distribution Agreement, which is then proceeded by the payment options. You can make a payment by using your debit or credit card. The step finishes up by filling up important details such as Developer Name etc. that will also be seen to your Google Play customer. You can add further details later. While registering for Google Developer Account, keep the fact in mind that it may take up to 48 hours to get your registration successfully processed.
Step 2: Is Your Going to Be a Paid One? Link Your Merchant Account
Are you planning to publish your app as a paid app or thinking of selling in-app purchases? Then you are required to create a payment center profile i.e. your Google Merchant Account. To do so, follow these steps;
ü First, sign in to your Google Play Console.
ü Now click on Financial in the Download Reports.
ü Click on Set Up a Merchant Account Now.
ü Fill in all the important business information required.
Once your profile will be created, it will automatically be linked to your Google Developer Account. This Merchant Account will serve as your gateway to managing all the monthly payouts, and in-app sales. Also, you can see and analyze monthly sales reports right within your Google Play Console.
Step 3: Create an App
We believe that as of now, your Play Console account will be set up and now you can finally add your Android application. Here are the steps, how you can do it.
ü First, go to the ‘All Application’ option in the menu.
ü Now select ‘Create Application’.
ü From the drop-down menu, select ‘Default Language’ for your app.
ü Select and type a title for your Android application.
ü Click on ‘Create’.
The app title that you will select here will be shown in your Google Play Store; however, you don’t need to worry about it as you can always change the name later. As soon as your app will be created, you will be lead to the next page i.e. the Store Entry Page. Here you are required to fill in all the details regarding your App’s Store Listing.
Step 4: Prepare Store Listing
a. Product Details
In this category, you need to fill the following three categories out;
The app title and description that you choose should be selected while keeping an exceptional user experience in consideration. You must also choose the right blend of keywords to improve indexing and app search. While doing this ensure your app does not appear to be over promotional or spam-y else there are chances of it getting suspended.
b. Graphic Assets
Add images, videos, screenshots, icons, and promotional graphics necessary to showcase the functionality and features of your application. Some parts of graphic assets are mandatory and some are optional. And you also have to follow the specific dimensions and file format as specified.
c. Language & Translations
You can select language translation in your app listing too. You can opt for automatic translations by using Google too.
d. Contact Details
Enter your contact details here to help your customer accessing you for support regarding your app. Multiple contact channels such as email, phone numbers or websites, etc. can be added, but email is mandatory.
You need to correctly specify the category for your app to which it belongs such as game, shopping, education or learning, etc. You can choose the option from the drop-down menu. To rate your content, you are required to upload the APK first, but you can skip the step for later.
For any application which requests permission to access sensitive data, you are required to define and mention a comprehensive policy that mentions everything about the use, usage of data collection, and sharing of the data.
Step 5: Upload APK to an App Release
Android Package Kit or APK is a file format that is used for Android Operating System for app installation and distribution. Here you need to put your APK files for your app which contain all the elements needed for your Android app to work on an Android device.
After creating the app release in Step # 3, move to the left side menu and then go to Release Management and then go to App Release.
Here you are required to choose the release type such as internal testing, open testing, closed testing, production release, etc. Each category has its set target audience of users. Once you have selected the ‘Create Release’ follow the instructions given on the screen for adding an APK file for your app, Add name and description to your app release also.
Step 6: Provide an Appropriate Content Rating
Your app will be listed as ‘Unrated’ if there will be no rating assigned to it, and apps that are not rated get suspended from the Play Store. You need to fill out a content rating questionnaire to rate your app. The questionnaire can be accessed from Google Play Console ‘Store Presence’ options. You can find the content rating on the left of the menu. Add information here very carefully, because misinformation may lead to suspension. The appropriate content rating can help you get the right audience and can improve your engagement rates.
Step 7: Set Up Pricing & Distribution
Determine an apt monetization strategy for your app and then fill it in here. You can always set up a paid app for free, but a free app cannot be made paid later, so think wisely and then choose.
Step 8: Rollout You App Release & Publish It
Review and roll out your Android app’s release by making sure that all your pricing, content rating, and distribution categories are rightly filled and there is a Green Check Mark on all. Click on the ‘Review’ option to see the ‘Review and Rollout’ screen. Here you may also see any warnings or issues that you have missed. Click on ‘Confirm Rollout’ and your app will be published on Google Play Store.
