Digital Marketing vs Traditional Marketing 21 November, 2019   

When you come up with a product or decide to introduce a service, one of the initial steps is to choose a marketing plan, be it traditional or digital. When we talk about traditional marketing, it includes TV commercials, Ads on the radio and good old newspaper Ads. These modes of marketing may be centuries old, but they still have a great impact on the audiences. The readers flock to the newspapers to get the daily scoop and come across advertisements as well, sharing it around using word of mouth.

Traditional Marketing

There are several benefits to traditional marketing, which will boost your company’s growth and rope in a greater client base. It is readily available, and almost all of us have access to these media, be it TV or newspaper. Radios are specific to a region and locality, so if you want to reach a targeted audience of a specific region, then radio is the better solution.

Readers widely know these traditional marketing strategies. They know what to expect when opening a newspaper and are familiar with the layout and pattern. Readers will not be confused.

study conducted by TrueImpact, sponsored by Canada Post depicted the difference in the impact of digital marketing and traditional marketing on people. Eye-tracking and high-resolution EEG of the brain are the metrics of measurement for this study. Neurosciences found that ease of understanding (cognitive load) and persuasiveness (motivation) were fluctuating in both scenarios. According to the report, more people were inclined to understand traditional marketing means, understanding them and memorizing them.

Digital marketing

Now coming to digital marketing. It is the form of marketing carried out on the internet via websites and social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter. The advertisement is done in the shape of social media posts, blogs, articles, etc. There is a wide variety to choose from in the digital marketing world, and viewers can view the information in the mode they prefer. If someone is not fond of watching lengthy videos, they can switch to reading articles or blogs. Skimming through content is made easier in digital marketing, where the modes of marketing are diverse. Traditional means of marketing are not able to provide the reader with that option- you either read through the whole passage, or you don’t.

Digital marketing lets you interact with your audience and makes the experience more worthwhile. Digital marketing is also easy on the pocket, which means it’s cost-effective. As it will be evident with time, the cost of creating digital Ads and then promoting it is far less than traditional methods because if you have to publish a post in the newspapers, it would be costly as many copies are printed. However, with digital marketing, you only post the Ad once, and everybody can view it.

The internet gives you a clear picture of the Ad and where it stands, along with all the statistics. You can gather the information by tracking the progress of the posts and seeing who views the posts. It also shows the region and country of the person viewing the Ad. By doing so, you can examine the demographics and determine which areas are viewing your content the most. When you know where your product is more popular, you can alter your Ads according to their culture.

 While traditional marketing has deep roots and long-held ideals, it is slowly being replaced by digital marketing. The Internet has turned the world into a global village, where everyone has a cell phone and access to the internet in the palm of their hands. This makes it a must for businesses to establish ground rules for marketing their products online.
