Devil May
Cry has always been renowned as one of the best action game franchises around
and with Devil May Cry 5, it truly reflects that reputation. DMC5 is a true
culmination of everything that made Devil May Cry great. The kickass music,
incredible combos, and that "Hell yeah" attitude is all present while
adding some new content such as new moves and a new character in "V". “V”
is a stark difference when compared to the two returning characters of Dante
and Nero. He is a more ranged and positioning based rather than in the face
action that the other two possess but a welcome change. Nero gains the new “Devil
Breaker” which gives him access to eight different arms each with different
abilities from slowing time to and evasive dash. It really fleshes Nero out and
makes him feel as a worthy successor to Dante who also is not left out. He
gains access to one the best weapons I have seen in gaming: a demon motorbike. Throw
in the stance switching and Dante is just outrageously fun. The story is
wonderfully over the top almost to the point of absurdity but manages to hold
together to tell a conclusive narrative.
There is
only a few hiccups worth mentioning. There is some stages and backgrounds that become
a bit more of the same after a while as they are very familiar to what has come
in previous stages. Overall, Devil May Cry 5 is everything that series veterans
were hoping for. An incredibly layered action experience with a quirky charm
that newcomers are still able to sink their teeth into. Rating: 9.5/10.
