Simrat Bhundar, a student at the University of Waterloo was in India when he noticed the large lineups at gas station in this heavily populated country. "The gas station was lined up with buses, cars and motorcyles with barely room to breathe. There had to be a more efficient way." says Simrat. This is when he came up with the idea of PetroWagon to provide scheduled and on demand delivery of diesel. The startup takes order via their cross platform mobile application available on iOS and Android and delivers to consumers as per their fuel requirements.
"Diesel is a combustible commodity, so attaining approval to deliver it was not a piece of cake. I spent months getting a safe and reliable diesel bowser to delivery fuel. After countless presentations and meetings with the Petroleum Ministry and Indian Oil Corporation things began to look up".
PetroWagon is currently serving the Chandigarh Tricity and neighbouring areas such as Mohali and Panchkula. With just a few delivery trucks, the startup is slowly rising and trying to meet the diesel demand in the city. The majority of fuel delivered is in bulk to consumers such as diesel school buses, hotel generators and heavy machinery equipment.
Simrat believes that delivering fuel is beneficial on many accounts: It relieves the traffic at gas stations, it reduces costs for large oil corporations and it simply is convenient, especially for consumers who require fuel in bulk. The startup ensures a safe delivery of diesel in trucks that have been manufactured according to the Petroleum Ministry and Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) guidelines.
"We have just passed the initial hurdles and have a long way to go. There is always room for improvement so we are continuing to work hard and learn from the mistakes we made initially starting up." says Simrat Bhundar, CEO and Founder of PetroWagon.
