Mistakes are an inevitable part of any process. We all make mistakes, learn from them and that is how we master new things. The MLM journey is a long one filled with ups and downs. And everyone is bound to make mistakes sooner or later. But it isn't advisable that you make all the mistakes yourself. That would be a costly way to learn the ins and outs of the business.

The good news is that plenty of network marketers who walked this road before have made the same mistakes and we can learn from them. Here are some of the biggest mistakes to avoid in the MLM business.

1. Lack of Proper Research

This is one of the most common and rookie mistakes multi-level marketers everywhere are guilty of committing. You must conduct thorough and in-depth research about the company you represent, the products you sell, and the plans you offer. All these factors are important while pitching your proposal to a prospect. They would have plenty of questions to ask you about your proposal. You should answer inquiries with confidence and conviction to gain their trust. Consider research as a top priority and set some time aside to do it. It will undoubtedly pay dividends in the future for your MLM business.

2. Blind Following

Network marketing is not an industry in which you can make money by doing just what everyone else is doing. Each network is unique and something works for someone else doesn't mean that it will necessarily work for you. If you take a look at MLM statistics, it can be seen that the majority of distributors fail to make profits from the business. That makes it clear that following the crowd blindly will not get you anywhere here. You don't see the whole system others have implemented and all the other activities performed. Even if you are copying other people's strategies, make sure you ask them for directions.

3. Not Having a System in Place:

No business can function smoothly without having a proper system in place. The multi-level marketing business is all about being systematic. You don't even have to create your own system. Just stick to the system that is implemented by the company or followed by your up-lines. There are many activities involved in the network marketing business and keeping track of them could turn chaotic without a proper system. Recruitment, training, prospecting, sales, etc must all be carried out systematically.

4. Lying About Products:

This is an extremely damaging mistake committed by many network marketers. You should never lie about or falsely hype up your products, plans, or company to prospects or customers. There is a good chance that they could end up being a part of your network and you could end up with egg on your face. Make sure to inform recruits about the realities of the MLM business and be honest about your earnings. Do not use false claims to sell your products or attract prospects. It is simply wrong and unethical.

5. Trying To Do Everything on Your Own:

The network marketing business is a team game. You cannot achieve anything on your own here. So do not try to go out on your own and do things single-handedly. Focus on developing a good team that plays to each other's strengths. Surround yourself with like-minded people who have similar goals and interests. Create a positive environment in which everyone is motivated and supported to perform at their full potential. Mentor and encourage your down-lines and train them expertly on the tips and tricks of the business.

6. Not being Fully Committed:

Many network marketers make the mistake of committing half-heartedly to the business. Although you can generate considerable passive income from the business, this is in the later stages of your MLM journey. Distributors should work incredibly hard initially to be able to earn passive income in the future. Hard work, dedication, patience, commitment, etc are required in abundance to succeed in network marketing. Entering the business without the intention of putting in the effort will only result in a loss of time and money.

6. Not Following Up:

Following up is an important aspect of recruiting in MLM. Statistics prove that the majority of prospects don't turn to customers until they are contacted at least 7 times. But most distributors don't bother to follow up more than 3 times and give up at the first sign of resistance. The top MLM earners relentlessly follow up with their prospects. They know that it is a long game and nothing can be ruled out based on the initial meetings. The process could ultimately take months to come to fruition, but the chances of success are boosted considerably.  

7. Having the Wrong Expectations:

People have all sorts of wrong conceptions about the MLM business. Many think it is a get-rich-quick scheme from which lots of money can be earned easily without getting their hands dirty. They come into the business with such expectations and freeze when faced with the reality that MLM business requires patience, hard work, commitment, a business plan, strategies, and much more to succeed. And no matter how good an opportunity they get, the burden of wrong expectations will weigh them down.

8. Not Using a Proper MLM Tools:

This is one of the biggest mistakes any MLM company can make in the business. A proper MLM software can take your MLM business to the next level. All the major MLM activities can be conducted effortlessly using these software. Managing your network, paying out commissions and rewards, keeping track of all that is happening in your company, etc are all made easy. Investing in an MLM software is one of the best things you can do for the success of your MLM business.
