Back in the ‘80s, social media was when you met your friends after school, and the fastest message you could send was probably by fax. Once the internet became known, in its rudimentary form, social media started as online bulletin boards operated and frequented by hobbyists and college students alike. This concept caught on like wildfire across America and was quite common by the early ‘90s. This trend blossomed under AOL (America Online), where there were member profiles and communities. Of course, closer to the concept of modern-day social media was classmates.com, which aimed to reunite former classmates online, and get them interacting with each other.
