Winston Churchill, the iconic British prime minister was born on 30th November 1874 in Oxfordshire, England. His father really wanted him to become a military person but tried twice with no success. However, on the third time, he was successful and joined the military in 1893. During his time as a military person, he was sent to different countries including Spain and Sudan as a soldier.
In 1900 he joined politics and was elected as the Conservative MP for Oldham. However, his ideologies did not match those of the conservatives, and therefore he joined the Liberals in 1904. In 1906 he was elected as a Liberal member of parliament for Northwest Manchester. After his election, he was made the secretary of state for colonies which led him to write his book ‘My African Journey.’ In 1908 he was elected the MP for Dundee and also became the president of the Board of Trade.
Churchill married in 1909 and had five kids. He continued with politics and went on to become the British prime minister in 1940. In 1945 his party was defeated in the election that the Labour won and he became the leader of the opposition. He, however, remained a member of parliament until 1964. He later died on 24th January 1965 and was given a state funeral. He is still remembered in the hearts of people because of the wisdom and leadership he had while Great Britan was in the situations of adversity.
