5 Best Herbal Extracts to Support Immunity 05 November, 2020

In the wake of COVID-19 pandemic, there’s been a lot of interest in ways to strengthen one’s immune system, and thus build a first line of defence against the deadly virus.

Immunity cannot be built up in a day, but the good news- you can easily support immunity with some exceptional herbal extracts. Here we have listed some of the natural products you can choose from.

1. Passionflower & Lychee

Passion fruit, commonly known as Granadilla or 'Krishna Phal, in India is a vine species native to Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. The fruit has been named after its flower which comes from one of the hundred species of the passion flower. Passion fruit is a type of berry which is sweet-sour, highly aromatic and seedy. It has varieties from purple passion fruit to yellow and golden one and also hybrids like the Kavery. Being a tropical plant, it needs well-drained soil with a high amount of humus and neutral pH to grow. So, it is commercially cultivated in the Nilgiri hills, north-eastern areas like Manipur, Mizoram and Meghalaya in India. The juicy fruits also have some great health benefits. Passion fruit is highly rich in Vitamin C, beta-cryptoxanthin and alpha-carotene that boosts your immunity. It even contains iron which increases haemoglobin in our red blood cells.

2. Ginseng Extract

Ginseng (the root of Panax ginseng Meyer, Family Araliaceae), one of the most well-known oriental medicinal herbs, has been widely used as an herbal remedy for various disorders. Natural-dried ginseng is known as white ginseng, and red ginseng is prepared by steaming fresh ginseng root prior to drying on the purpose of enhancing efficacy, safety, and preservation. Ginseng has been well known as an immune modulator. Roots (mostly), stems, leaves of ginseng, and their extracts have been used for maintaining immune homeostasis and enhancing resistance to illness or microbial attacks through effects on the immune system.

3. Chamomile Extract

Chamomile (Matricaria recutita) is a flowering plant in the daisy (Asteraceae) family. Native to Europe and Western Asia, it's now found around the world. The herb smells slightly like an apple, which may explain its name—chamomile is Greek for Earth apple.

There are two different chamomile plants: German chamomile and Roman chamomile. German chamomile, which is considered the more potent variety and the type most widely used for medicinal purposes, is the plant discussed here. It has been claimed that consumption of chamomile tea boosts the immune system and helps fight infections associated with colds. The health promoting benefits of chamomile was assessed in a study which involved fourteen volunteers who each drank five cups of the herbal tea daily for two consecutive weeks.

4. Herbal Peppermint

Peppermint forms an important part of our lives; from giving our upset stomach some relief to providing our drinks a refreshing taste and aroma. Its calmative properties can leave you relaxed, release your stress and mental pressure; that’s how good and rejuvenating peppermint is. Mint is packed with a varied range of antioxidants that help prevent free radical activity. Free radical activity could take a toll on your immunity. Mint is also enriched with anti-inflammatory properties that help ease discomfort and pain that is often tied with cold and flu.

5. Organic Ginger & Lemon

Ginger is filled with immune-boosting benefits, making it a “go-to” ingredient in many of my healthy recipes. First off, ginger is antibacterial so it helps support the immune system and it can help to prevent nausea and soothe an upset stomach. Ginger is also a natural blood thinner and contains a phenolic anti-inflammatory compound called gingerol that may be responsible for relaxing blood vessels. Lemons are an excellent source of Vitamin C, a natural antioxidant that improves the immune system and has antibacterial and antiviral qualities.

Key Takeaway!

Those were some of the exceptional organic products that are known to boost immunity in the natural beings. Apart from all those products mentioned above, there are many more like Kiwi, Apple, and many more that have been trusted by the people for ages now. To conclude, we can say that herbal and organic products are the only trustable source in today’s pandemic environment that can truly help us in boosting our immunity. Apart from the naturally occurring minerals and steroids, the natural products even contain ancient science and wisdom that helps us to achieve perfect wellbeing seamlessly.
