20 Dalai Lama Quotes On Life, Love And Kindness

Lhamo Dondrub - famously known as Dalai Lama, or Tenzin Gyatso was born on 6th July 1935 in China. He was enthroned as the 14th Dalai Lama in 1940 and assumed complete political duties when he was 15 after China invaded Tibet. Fearing assassination, he and his thousands of followers fled to Dharamsala in India.

He met the prime minister of India, and he was allowed to set up a government with the other 80,000 Tibetan exiles. However, he continued to advocate for peace in China asking the Chinese government to respect human rights. In 1987, he drafted a Five Point Peace Plan and asked the United Nations to support Tibetans to have self-determination.

He started a peace campaign and met different religious leaders including John Paul II. His advocacy led him to win Nobel Prize in 1989. He remains a human rights advocate and has traveled all over the world spreading the idea of Buddhism. Throughout he sought to develop a relationship between science and Buddhism. Dalai Lama has also remained very vocal about environmental protection, the importance of nuclear disarmament and issues of capitalism.

In a recent tour, Dalai Lama was quoted saying that: “Human happiness and human satisfaction must ultimately come from within oneself. It is wrong to expect some final satisfaction to come from money or a computer.” He remains to be a peace advocate and environmental activist.
